Courageous Women of Faith: A Lenten Retreat Day for Women

Courageous Women of Faith explores a few of the scriptural women who were touched by Jesus. Jesus drew them in, broke their old patterns of living, and brought them into the fullness of life. This is a perfect Lenten retreat as we touch the hem of Christ, break open our jars of love, and stand at the foot of the cross. Please join us on this International Day of Women to reflect on our own lives as courageous women of faith: blessed, broken, and given for others. Mary, a frequent presenter in the Archdiocese and adjunct professor at Loras College, incorporates everyday life experiences into her dynamic presentations.

T’ai Chi is an ancient form of body movement from China that builds energy, creativity, health, harmony, peace and balance. Through the graceful flow of movements which reflect images of nature, T’ai Chi connects MIND, BODY & SPIRIT and channels the energy and force that is in and around us.
Sister Marian Klostermann has been practicing and teaching T’ai Chi for more than 25 years. She took a class from the University of Nebraska in Omaha in T’ai Chi Chuan but teaches the modified form known as T’a Chi Chih.

Here’s your chance to learn how to make some of the wonderful recipes that our talented cook, Margie, serves to our many guests! She will demonstrate and give out recipes for the following: napa salad, mashed potato-stuffed chicken, a vegetable dish, and one of her famous ice-cream desserts. Participants will then enjoy these at a noon lunch.
In addition, each participant is invited to bring along a pound or two of ground beef, which Margie will help turn into one of her very tasty meatloaves to take home and bake.

Will You Be My Servant?

Robert Greenleaf wrote an article in 1970 entitled “The Servant as Leader” and launched a whole new way of thinking about leadership. The idea of leaders who serve dates back to Jesus Christ, who told his disciples, “Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant.” (Matthew 20:26). We will examine the concept of “Servant Leadership” both in its original and more modern forms and explore how we can exercise servant leadership in our families, work and church.
RESERVE OUR FACILITYGroups: Shalom's facilities (including food service) are available for a very reasonable rate for meetings, staff/board retreats, spiritual gatherings, and more - for a few hours, a day, an overnight or longer. Arrangements can be made for meeting rooms, meals, AV equipment and overnight accommodations (for up to 75 people). Groups of 10 to 120 people can be accommodated for meetings/meals. Also, free Wi-Fi high-speed internet access is available.
Individuals: Shalom offers private retreats for individuals. They may choose spiritual direction as part of their retreat, or they may prefer to spend their time in solitude. The length of the retreat is flexible.
Overnight Accommodations: Affordable overnight accommodations may be available for out-of-town adult guests who are in the area for a non-profit organization or Shalom Center event.
