Sister Eileen (Baptista) Schoenherr, OSF died Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Clare House.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 1, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in Francis Chapel.  Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00–7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019, with Funeral Vigil at 7:00 p.m. in Francis Chapel.

Sister was born on March 14, 1927 in Mapleton, Iowa, to Michael J. and Elizabeth (Zeiman) Schoenherr.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on August 25, 1945, and made final profession of vows August 12, 1951. Sister received her education at St. Mary’s School in Mapleton through the eighth grade. Because Mapleton didn’t have a Catholic high school, Eileen attended 9th through 12th grade at Maple High. Sister served at various missions as a homemaker in Iowa including Alton, Dubuque at Immaculate Conception Academy and St. Mary’s Home, and Sioux City St. Anthony’s Home. She spent several years working in an Outreach Program for Catholic Charities in Waterloo, Iowa. Later she worked at St. Pius X Parish in Cedar Rapids as a social worker and Pastoral Associate.

Sister is survived by her sisters, Nora Flanigan and Sister Consilia Schoenherr, OSF, nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared over 72 years of her life.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Aloysius (Helene) and Paul (Mary Ann); her sisters Theresa, Rita (Raymond) Weber, Bernice (Walter) Hageman, Clara (Herb) Pewick, Stella (Paul) Dietz and her brother-in-law, Joseph Flanigan.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis.
