Sister Shirley Fineran Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

Sister Shirley Fineran was honored Tuesday, March 22, with the Marilyn Murphy Lifetime Achievement Award at the Women of Excellence recognition banquet in Sioux City, Iowa.

Sister Shirley is an assistant professor of social work at Briar Cliff University.  She is the founding member of several organizations, including the Food Bank of Siouxland, Siouxland Habitat for Humanity and Siouxland Unidad Latina.  She serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Home, and continues to work with the Mary Treglia Community House.  Her newest mission is establishing a halfway house for women who have been involved with human trafficking.

Six other women from the Siouxland area were honored during the 32nd annual Women of Excellence recognition banquet.  The event recognizes leadership, character and accomplishments and is a fundraiser for Women Aware, a United Way of Siouxland agency that provides supportive services for individuals and families to increase their self-sufficiency.
