The Sisters of St. Francis are offering a “Care of Creation Morning” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27.

The morning will feature a presentation by Dr. Brian Hazlett on the role of the prairie in our eco-system.  This will be followed by a short guided prairie walk for those who wish this first-hand experience.

“Participants will learn about the treasures and role of the prairie,” said Charism Team Member Sister Michelle Balek, OSF.

Dr. Brian Hazlett taught at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, for 22 years.  Courses he taught were: Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Prairie Ecology, Natural History of Southern California, and Desert Ecology.  His first research interest at Briar Cliff was documenting the flora of the 150-acre Sioux City Prairie, a Nature Conservancy Preserve adjacent to campus.

The event is sponsored by Franciscan Common Venture and the Charism Team of the Dubuque Franciscans.
