Sister Alda (Florence) Thilges, OSF, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the age of 103.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Masks are optional. Guests unable to attend may participate via livestream at: www.youtube.com/dubuquefranciscans.

Florence, daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Reding) Thilges, was born May 15, 1920 in St. Joseph, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque on September 8, 1939 and was received with the name Sister Mary Alda on August 12, 1940. Sister made her final profession of vows on August 12, 1945.

Sister attended Loras College, Dubuque, IA. As a homemaker in Iowa she ministered at Bancroft, Ionia, and Dubuque. Missions in Illinois included Mary of the Woods, Chicago and St. Christopher, Midlothian.

Sister is survived by her nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Alida (Walter) Bradley; and brothers Harold (Katie) Thilges, Henry (Doris) Thilges, and Alvin Thilges.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis – 3390 Windsor Ave. – Dubuque, IA 52001
