Sister Mary (Gustave) Klisart, OSF, died Friday, December 2, 2022 at the age of 89.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2022. Masks will be required. Guests unable to attend may participate via livestream at: www.youtube.com/dubuquefranciscans.

Mary, daughter of the late Gustave and Catherine (Kass) Klisart, was born January 7, 1933 in Ossian, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis de Sales, Ossian. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque on August 25, 1951. She was received with the name Sister Mary Gustave on August 12, 1952 and made her final profession of vows on August 10, 1957.

Sister Mary served as a teacher at Holy Ghost School, Dubuque; St Mary’s, New Hampton, Iowa; Midlothian, Illinois; All Saints School, Portland, Oregon; St Timothy’s School, Minneapolis; and St. Peter and Paul School, Petersburg, Iowa.  She has served as principal at Mary’s, Manchester, Iowa, Sacred Heart School, Sioux City, Iowa; and DeSales School, Ossian.  She ministered as a pastoral associate at St. Athanasius Parish, Jesup, Iowa; St. Mary’s, Manchester; and St. Patrick’s, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Sister is survived by her sister Lois (Robert) Sharp; sisters-in-law Lorna Klisart and Jacqueline Klisart;  nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jane Long; and her brothers, Luke Klisart, Mel Klisart, and Joel (Elaine) Klisart.
