Grounds Keeper / Maintenance Worker

Responsibilities:

  1.      Maintain grounds as needed:
  2.       Ensure all garden beds are free from debris and weeds and maintain wood chips in various garden beds as needed.
  3.      Ensure all grape vines, raspberry bushes and trees are pruned as needed.
  4.       Perform annual garden duties:
  5.      Ensure garden beds are ready for community gardeners which may include tilling the grounds, adding compost or fresh dirt, and assisting the sisters with any of their gardening needs.
  6.      Assist with annual tree planting as needed and ensure trees are properly watered.
  7.       Ensure all seasonal furniture is in working order and placed around the campus in the spring and properly stored in the fall.
  8.      Maintain the fire break of the prairie annually and assist with maintaining the prairie grounds as needed.
  9.      Assist maintenance workers as needed throughout the day.

Degree of Supervision:  Works under limited supervision yet under the direction of Direction of Environmental services. Uses some discretion and applies normal policies and procedures based on experience. Speaks with the Director for assistance in decision making.   Limited authority: acts after informing director, especially when actions are unusual.

Level of Interpersonal Skills Required:  Normal.  Must be able to exchange information on factual matters, greet visitors, and so forth.   Ordinary courtesy and tact required.

 Analytical and Problem-Solving Requirements:  Normal.  Must have ability to gather and interpret data but in situations where the problems are normal or routine.  The analysis or interpretation is based primarily on factual data where established methods or procedures or specific instructions can be followed.  Precedents are readily available. A written log of the weight of the harvest of the garden produce is required.

 Qualifications:

         Education:  General high school or knowledge gardening / basic maintenance tasks.

         Certification:  None

         Experience:  Flexible however prefer 2-3 years in grounds keeping work.

Physical Exertion: Moderate to heavy.  Frequent bending, lifting, climbing,

and stooping.  Lifting of up to 50 lbs. required. Able to meet requirements of physical exertion.    Able to use basic electric gardening equipment and machines.

         Visual Attention:  Average.

         Personal Protective Equipment:  MSFC highly recommends the employee provide his/her own

        safety shoes or boots especially while using equipment such as weedwhacker/hedge trimmer etc.

         Exemplify a caring, cheerful behavior and effective interpersonal relationships.

         Be willing to maintain a helpful, respectful, and courteous manner with residents, staff, and

        guests.

Cook

Accepting applications for a full-time cook to prepare nutritional and appealing meals for sisters, staff, guests and for special functions and events.  This position uses standardized recipes; stores food items according to safety standards; distributes food; demonstrates skill in use and care of food production equipment; places food orders when necessary; maintains clean and orderly work area; and adheres to all safety and sanitation policies.  The position of cook will be 32 to 40 hours per week and includes weekend and holiday rotations.  Shifts are 6:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  A full benefit package is included the first of the month following date of hire including health, dental, vision and life insurance. Also available are short and long term disability, accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity. Other benefits include a generous holiday pay, PTO (paid time off) and ESB (extended sick pay) program along with flex spending plan, employee retirement, 401(k) with matching contributions.

Food Service Homemaker (Part-time)

Accepting applications for a part-time food service homemaker.  18-24  hours bi-weekly; 3-4 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Includes weekends and holiday rotations.

HVACR

Accepting applications for a full-time HVACR.  State of Iowa mechanical license required or the ability to obtain in one year of employment; 3-5 years’ experience in commercial and industrial service work with a background in water to air geothermal preferred; must be a self-starter, available for on-call schedule, have a valid driver license, and able to lift 50 lbs.  Full benefit package.

Nurse

Accepting applications for full and part-time nurses.  Applicants are required to be a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse and will be providing and supervising all medical care given to sisters.

Caregiver

Accepting applications for FT/PT/PRN, with possible weekend package options. (Must be 18 years of age to apply.) The caregiver provides physical care to the sisters to meet their daily needs and to enable them to function at the highest possible level.  Caregivers assist at meal times; change bed linens; exercise and walk sisters; take and record vitals; help with a sister’s personal care such as positioning, dressing, bathing and grooming; and other duties as assigned.
