June 1, 2019 – Nature’s Ways: Healing and Spiritual Growth Through Nature Interaction, 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The power of nature to heal and grow the human spirit is substantiated through an increasing body of behavioral research. Philip Chard, a thought leader in the emerging field of eco-psychology, illustrates how interacting with nature helps to overcome debilitating feelings, heal emotional wounds, promote self-understanding, nurture creativity, and further spiritual growth. Co-Sponsored with Shalom Spirituality Center. This program will be held at Shalom Spirituality Center, 1001 Davis St., Dubuque. Offering: $35, includes lunch. Pre-register and pay by May 28 directly to Shalom: (563) 582-3592 or info@shalomretreats.org.
June 19, 2019 – Summer Solstice Drumming Circle, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Presented by Deb Stevens. Native drums, being made in a circle, represent
the earth and life.
The beating drum is compared to
the beating of a human heart and is said to represent
the heartbeat of
the earth and right relationships. Come celebrate
the Summer Solstice,
the day that
the sun reaches its highest position in
the sky and is
the day with
the longest period of daylight, by joining in our drumming to be in harmony with Earth’s rhythms. Some drums will be provided, but if you have your own, feel free to bring it along. All ages welcome; children should be accompanied by an adult.
July 23, 2019 –
Every Day is Earth Day Movie Nite: “Paris to Pittsburgh,” 6:30 p.m. This documentary brings to life
the impassioned efforts of individuals who are battling
the most severe threats of climate change in
their own backyards. Set against
the national debate
over the United States’ energy future – and
the Trump administration’s decision to exit
the Paris Climate Agreement –
the film captures what’s at stake
for communities around
the country and
the inspiring ways Americans are responding. Free will offering. Free popcorn.
