Dubuque Franciscan Associates and Sisters were part of a civil rights/service trip from April 16-22, 2023 in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Missouri.

Leading the team were Franciscan Associates Chuck and Kathy Glatz.  Team members were: Sister Mary Lee Cox and Franciscan Associates Mary Jo Pfeifer Wulf, Carol Pearson, Mary Ann Koch, Mary Ann Dorcey, Donna Fleming-Alcocer (with  Phil Alcocer), Kathryn Mlsna,  and Sheri Hosek

The team spent part of the week giving service in Okolona, Missisippi, where Dubuque Franciscan Sister Nancy Schreck ministers, and also learning about people and the history of the area.

The Civil Rights/Service Trip exceeded my expectations,” said Sister Mary Lee Cox. ” It was a wonderful time with so many of our Associates.  It was great to be with Sisters Nancy and Liz Brown, CSJ again to see how they both have created lasting relationships with the people in Okolona.”

“I’m so glad I signed up for this service and educational trip to Mississippi. In this time of deep division with political, racial, and religious differences, it gave me hope to see what deep listening, inclusivity, networking, longevity of presence, and wise, loving leadership can do for a community,” said Franciscan Associate Donna Fleming-Alcocer.
