Streng Clara

Sister Clara (Natalie) Streng, died January 4, at Clare House, Dubuque.

The Rite of Final Committal was held at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, followed by burial at the Sisters of St. Francis natural burial site. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 15, at the Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center. Livestream of both services can be viewed at: www.youtube.com/dubuquefranciscans.

Sister Clara was born on April 10, 1933 in Cascade, Iowa, to Anthony and Adele (Sauser) Streng

She  entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 25, 1951, and made final profession of vows August 10, 1957.  Sister received her Master of Arts degree in elementary administration from Loras College, Dubuque, in 1970.  She ministered as an educator in Illinois at Melrose Park and in Iowa at Roseville, St. Donatus, St. Catherine, and Sr. Mary’s, Dubuque. She served in parish ministry in Cherokee, Iowa and in Mission, South Dakota. She also served in pastoral ministry in Arizona at Tucson, Sells, and Topawa.

Sister is survived by her sister Mary Neiers; a brother Lloyd Streng; nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Doris Streng, Joan (John ‘Dick’) Hamilton, Grace (Harold ‘Pete’) Schaaf, and Sister Denise Streng, OSF; her brothers John (Geri) Streng, Robert Streng; sister-in-law Gloria Streng; and brother-in-law Fred Neiers.
